IF YOU HAD ₦10 MILLION TODAY, WHERE WOULD YOU PUT IT?
The stock market or real estate?
With the Dangote Refinery IPO currently attracting attention, many Nigerians are thinking more seriously about investing in shares and participating in the growth of major businesses.
But it also raises a bigger question:
What type of investment actually fits your financial goal?
Putting ₦10 million into shares gives you ownership in a business. Your investment can potentially grow as the company grows, and shares can generally be easier to sell than a physical property.
Real estate is different.
Your money goes into a tangible asset that can potentially appreciate, generate rental income, or serve a practical purpose over many years.
But both come with risks.
Shares can fall in value.
Properties can remain vacant.
Markets can change.
Property values can differ significantly from one location to another.
So the real question isn't:
"Shares or real estate, which is better?"
It is:
"What am I trying to achieve with this money?"
If you need liquidity and exposure to business growth, equities may have a place in your portfolio.
If you're looking for a tangible, long-term asset with potential rental income and capital appreciation, real estate may make sense.
And for some investors, the smarter answer may not be either/or.
It may be both.
This Monday, don't just ask where your money can go. Ask what you want your money to accomplish.
