Villa Laguna is a unique space for retreats & group experiences and an exclusive villa for rent located on the shore of the healing waters of Laguna de Apoyo, Nicaragua. The Villa is secluded in a quiet area of the Natural Reserve of the Apoyo Lagoon, a crater lake that was formed thousands of years ago, when the volcano imploded in itself, creating a lake which waters are believed to have medicinal properties. It's unique location provides an opportunity for relaxation and privacy like no other. Laguna de Apoyo is centrally located within Nicaragua and only just over an hour away from Managua Airport. The colonial city of Granada is only 30 mins away, and Masaya, with its famous artisans market and active volcano, is only 20 mins away. Everybody is welcome here

🇳🇮 Siempre es un gusto recibir grupos que salen a descubrir los rincones tan bonitos que tenemos en Nicaragua. 🌿

Hace unas semanas tuvimos el placer de recibir a este increíble grupo de senderistas, que eligió Villa Laguna como punto de encuentro y de almuerzo en su día de explorar la reserva natural Laguna de Apoyo.

🇺🇸 🐾 Creatures of Villa Laguna: Meet Nala

If you've visited Villa Laguna over the past few years, there's a chance you never even saw Nala... and that's completely normal. 💚

Like her brother Simba, Nala arrived at Villa Laguna as a tiny orphaned kitten in 2017. While Simba quickly became everyone's best friend, Nala took a very different path.

She is our shy girl.

Rather than making friends with everyone, Nala usually chooses one special human during each visit. Once you've been selected, she'll quietly follow you to your room and may even sneak through your window to become your roommate for the week.

One of Nala's favourite ways of showing affection is making biscuits on your lap with her little paws. It's incredibly sweet... although those tiny claws can sometimes make it a little less relaxing than it sounds! (If you ever find Miriam with an expression of pain while working in the reception area… Nala is usually the reason. 😸)

She's also known for her impossibly shiny black coat and her wonderfully quirky little belly, which gives her a shape that's as unique as her personality.

Camera shy but endlessly lovable, Nala reminds us that not everyone shows love in the same way. Sometimes, the quietest friendships become the most special ones. 🖤🐾

🇳🇮 🐾 **Criaturas de Villa Laguna: Conoce a Nala**

Si has visitado Villa Laguna durante los últimos años, es muy posible que ni siquiera hayas llegado a ver a Nala... y eso es completamente normal. 💚

Al igual que su hermano Simba, Nala llegó a Villa Laguna siendo una diminuta gatita huérfana en 2017. Pero mientras Simba se convirtió rápidamente en el mejor amigo de todo el mundo, Nala tomó un camino muy diferente.

Ella es nuestra chica tímida.

En lugar de hacerse amiga de todo el mundo, Nala suele elegir a un solo humano especial durante cada estancia. Si eres el afortunado, te seguirá discretamente hasta tu habitación e incluso puede colarse por la ventana para convertirse en tu compañera de cuarto durante toda la semana.

Una de sus formas favoritas de demostrar cariño es amasar sobre tu regazo con sus patitas. Es una monada... aunque esas uñitas a veces hacen que la experiencia sea un poquito menos relajante de lo que parece. (Si alguna vez veis a Miriam con cara de dolor mientras trabaja en recepción... probablemente Nala tenga algo que ver. 😸)

También es conocida por su precioso y brillante pelaje negro y por su simpática barriguita colgante, que le da una silueta tan peculiar como adorable.

Muy tímida para las fotos, pero infinitamente cariñosa, Nala nos recuerda que no todo el mundo demuestra su cariño de la misma manera. A veces, las amistades más silenciosas terminan siendo las más especiales. 🖤🐾

🇺🇸 🌿 Humans of Villa Laguna: Meet Óscar

Today we'd love to introduce you to Óscar, one of the friendly faces most guests get to know during their stay at Villa Laguna.

Óscar joined our team on February 2020. His timing, however, couldn't have been much worse! After just two months with us, Villa Laguna had to close its doors temporarily due to the pandemic. Thankfully, once we reopened, Óscar returned to the team, and he has been welcoming and caring for our guests ever since. 💚

✨ What does he enjoy most about working here?
Looking after our guests and making them feel at home. For Óscar, there's nothing more rewarding than seeing visitors enjoy their stay and leave with wonderful memories, hopefully eager to return one day.

✨ What does he like to do in his free time?
Watching football! ⚽ Especially when his favourite team, Real Madrid, is playing. If there's an important match on, chances are Óscar already knows the score.

✨ What would he recommend to someone visiting Nicaragua for the first time?
A visit to the beautiful colonial city of Granada and the nearby Isletas. He loves Granada's rich history and architecture, while the Isletas offer a chance to experience nature, spot birds, and enjoy a different side of Nicaragua. 🌿🦜

Kind, reliable, and always ready to help, Óscar plays an important role in making Villa Laguna feel welcoming and cared for. If you've ever been greeted with a smile, had a question answered, or received a helping hand during your stay, there's a good chance it was Óscar. 🌿💚
