Listed as a Monument Historique, this château traces its origins back to the 16th century, when it was established under the reign of King François I and subsequently shaped by prominent noble families who left a lasting imprint on its architecture and gardens.

Over the centuries, the estate evolved through classical transformations and a major 19th-century restoration, during which the formal gardens were reimagined as an English landscape park. Today, set within more than forty hectares of remarkable grounds, the château stands as a rare testament to French heritage, combining architectural distinction, historical depth and enduring grandeur.

We present to you this appartement in Paris on Boulevard Malesherbes: A refined example of Haussmannian architecture dating from 1864.

The property spans 227 Sq. M and is defined by a sculpted white-stone façade and grand carriage entrances opening onto an elegant courtyard ensemble. Located on the second floor, the apartment retains all classical features of the period and offers generous volumes with the flexibility to adapt to a variety of uses.

“Rooftop landscape” (daklandschap) is a term frequently used by our restoration architect Ir. Nanette de Jong. It captures the layered rhythm of chimneys, ridgelines and canal houses, a quiet, elevated world that reveals Amsterdam from an entirely different perspective.

Pictured: A rather pretty vista from the snowy roof of our latest project at Herengracht, which is soon to be published.

Here, history is not only preserved at street level, but carefully continued above it, where craftsmanship, proportion and skyline come together in subtle harmony.

Started off the year with snow in our office garden! ❄️❄️

The garden behind our office at Singel 60 is something of a rarity. During the first city expansion of 1585 (Eerste Uitleg) there was very little room for canal-side gardens. Many houses on this side of the Singel have a coach house in the Langestraat, which is, after all, a street characteristically lined with such buildings.

Only numbers 58 to 64 on the Singel have gardens, enclosed by a blank wall along the Langestraat.

𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲:”𝗖𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗛𝗼𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘁”.

Herengracht 79 stands within the oldest portion of Amsterdam’s celebrated canal belt, the so-called first expansion of 1585. Initially, this canal commanded less prestige than the Singel, yet with the development of the canal ring from 1613 onwards, its standing rose considerably. In the century that followed, the more modest properties were renewed and enlarged, precisely what occurred with this residence circa 1700.

The property offers 225 m² of living space with splendid views over the canal, not in the least from it’s roof terrace. A distinguished corner house where natural light streams in from multiple aspects.

We invite you to the August 2025 edition of “𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝘆𝗲𝘀” 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗲 (available via the link in our bio), in which we reflect upon the convergence of architecture and sculptural art, and the enduring value of integrated art forms in historic buildings.

These marble caryatids - columns in the form of female figures - can be found in ‘De Vierschaar’, the former courthouse within Amsterdam’s town hall (now the Royal Palace on Dam Square). These works by the Flemish sculptor Artus Quellinus (1609-1668) represent the symbolic figures of Guilt and Remorse.

Artus Quellinus spent over fifteen years creating hundreds of sculptures, festoons, coats of arms and ornaments, seamlessly integrating them with both interiors and exteriors of what would become the most prestigious integrated sculptural project the Dutch Republic had ever known.

Quellinus, often regarded as the northern counterpart to Gian Lorenzo Bernini, ranks amongst the most important sculptors of the seventeenth century. Yet he remained relatively unknown to the general public.

Photographs taken by us at the palace. The terracotta work models of two of the caryatids are pictured in the last photograph, currently on display as part of the exhibition 𝘼𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙨 𝙌𝙪𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙪𝙨 - 𝙎𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙥𝙩𝙤𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝘼𝙢𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙙𝙖𝙢.
