In October 2025, Brownline UK surveyed these parallel HDD crossings in Wales, under the M4 near Newport. Contractor Gmac Utilities Ltd installed two water mains below the motorway. 🛣️

A mud motor was used to drill through the hard layers of mudstone. Brownline UK provided real-time positional measurements and steering advice using the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool. 🎯

Considering the significant elevation changes of the bore and the crucial motorway crossing, fluid pressure management was key. With Brownline's Pressure-While-Drilling service, the downhole pressure was monitored and the risk of blow-outs was strongly reduced. 🛡️

🇬🇧 Throwback time: upgrading drainage in a cheese factory without breaking concrete 🧀

A year ago, Brownline Canada contributed to the installation of two drainage lines under a cheese factory in Calgary. The slope of the drainage pipes was very important, which is why the accuracy of the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool was crucial to the success of the installation.

This past winter, Brownline Canada surveyed seven HDD crossings with Double M Construction Group Ltd in Alberta. A new pipeline for produced water is being constructed here and the pipeline route included some very challenging sections. ⚠️

Very diverse soil conditions required alternating between a jetting assembly and mud motor on some of these crossings. The drill trajectories also included reverse vertical curves and there were large elevation differences between entry and exit. The largest difference was an exit point located 65 m (213 ft) above the entry point. 📐📈

Brownline Canada helped overcome these challenges by surveying the bores with the Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool. This high-tech solution was the key to drilling the pilot bores efficiently and with absolute accuracy. Throwback Tuesday: drilling an S-curve under busy streets in Switzerland with minimal space.

A year ago, we teamed up with Huber Leitungsbau for this complex HDD project in Switzerland. The goal was clear: minimize disruption to the urban environment. While daily life continued as normal above ground, the drill crossed four railway tracks and a pedestrian tunnel underground. Thanks to our advanced Drillguide Gyro Steering Tool, the new water pipeline was installed accurately and with minimal disruption beneath the center of Stäfa.
