PIM TOP
The work of Pim Top is probably more influenced by his studies at Erasmus University (Cultural Sciences, Philosophy, Art History) than by his brief stint at the art academy. Every image he creates stems from studies examining how we perceive 2D images and how, since the beginning of time, we have translated our reality onto flat surfaces to communicate.
His recent collages add a tactile element to his mostly digital work by incorporating different types of (photo) paper. The compositions are still created digitally, now with a focus on a more abstract style. Although the works appear busy and maximalist, he prefers to refer to them as his more “minimal” pieces.
From left to right: Visual Measurement, Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn, Sidonia/Atlas: Gore-Tex City, The Empire Line, and Zugzwang.
Now that the has come to a close, the works of, among others, Marie Bernard, Pim Top, and Benjamin Motoc remain on view at DOEN through the end of April.
