Kathmandu Ward 23 Launches Ranjana Script Signage for Restaurants and Cafe
Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward 23 has begun installing Ranjana script signboards for registered and renewed restaurant businesses in key heritage areas including Basantapur, Jhochhen (Freak Street), Damkal side, and Om Bahal.
In the first phase, 50 restaurants will receive culturally designed signage, with plans to gradually include all restaurant businesses within the ward. The initiative aims to promote Nepal’s indigenous Ranjana script while enhancing the visual identity of the historic tourist zone.
The program is coordinated by the Jhochhen Community Society, with active support from Ward Chair Macharaja Maharjan and the ward team. Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol has been leading efforts to promote the use of traditional scripts across the city.
Creative design and implementation support have been provided by Callijatra, with contributions from Ananda K. Maharjan. with the use of "Nithya Ranjana" font.
Officials say the initiative will both preserve cultural heritage and improve the experience for visitors in the historic core of Kathmandu.
