Renovating? Don’t hire a tradie until you’ve asked these questions.

Whether you’re renovating to enjoy your home or preparing it for sale, choosing the right tradesperson can make a huge difference to the final result — and your budget.

Before agreeing to any work, it pays to ask:
✓ Are you properly qualified and licensed?
✓ Do you have the right insurance?
✓ Can I see examples of your previous work?
✓ Can I speak to a previous client?
✓ How long will the job take?
✓ Is this a fixed-price quote or an estimate?
✓ Exactly what is included in the quote?
✓ What happens if we disagree or unexpected work is required?

And one piece of advice I particularly agree with: don’t automatically choose the cheapest quote.

Get several quotes and make sure you’re comparing like with like. A cheap quote that excludes important work can end up being considerably more expensive in the long run.

From a real estate perspective, good renovations can add value to a property - but poorly planned renovations can do the opposite.

So before you knock down that wall, renovate the kitchen or tackle the bathroom, do your homework first.
