Before buying a home, make sure you…

✅ Research – Do your own due diligence, and make sure either you or your lawyer do a title search on the property.
✅ Seek legal advice – don’t sign anything before you’ve talked to a conveyancer/property lawyer.
✅ Understand the sales process – how the property is being sold (tender, auction etc) will impact everything from how you negotiate to the length of the process.
✅ Read the Sale and Purchase agreement – this is your contract with the seller. Even though your lawyer will take the lead on all the paperwork, it’s certainly worth reading all the documentation yourself – after all, this is likely one of the biggest commitments you’ll ever make!

If you win at auction, you're required to pay the deposit straight away. This is usually done through a funds transfer or bank cheque. A transfer is more common and requires you to notify the bank before the auction so they can temporarily increase your transfer limit to cover the cost. Alternatively, you can obtain a bank cheque from any local branch.
