Depending on whether you’re single or part of a couple, you could get between $10,000-$20,000 towards a new or β€˜off-plan’ home. To be eligible, you need to have contributed to KiwiSaver for at least three years, and earn $85,000 (or less) for a single buyer, or $130,000 (or less) if you’re a couple or group.

The changes to the Brightline Test on 1 July 2024:

Brightline Test - What are the current rules (right now)?
Changes have been announced to the Brightline test which are to come into effect on 1 July 2024, as a result of the change of government.
β€’ For properties bought after March 27, 2021, your bright-line test is usually 10 years. But, if you bought a New Build, your test is 5 years.
β€’ For properties bought between March 29, 2018, and March 27, 2021, your bright-line test is 5 years.
β€’ For any properties bought before March 28, 2018, the bright-line test no longer applies. That will change when National implements its new policy. Every property will have a 2-year bright-line test. Properties sold after 1 July 2024 will therefore only have to pay tax on any profit made on sale if they have been owned for less than two years, unless an exception applies. Properties purchased before July 2022 will no longer be subject to the Brightline test because as at July 2024 all sales of those properties will have occurred after at least two years. So, if your current test is a 5 or 10-year bright-line, it will go down to 2 years.
Let’s say you bought a property in June 2022.

Under previous rules, you could get a hefty tax bill if you sold before June 2032.

When the test changes on the 1st of July 2024, your brightline expires in June 2024. Eight years earlier. You can sell and not pay tax.
