Following a highly successful career as a real estate salesperson in the West Auckland Region for almost a decade, Tony Buckwell now leads the accomplished team at Barfoot & Thompson Te Atatu. Awarded the #1 Branch Salesperson across multiple years and receiving numerous company-wide accolades, Tony thrives on sharing the skills and knowledge that contributed to his successes with the team he now

leads. A commitment to excellence in customer service, innovation, attention to detail and belief in developing ‘clients for life’ are some of the key attributes which permeate the entire team. In his own words, Tony explains “I see my role as providing the leadership and direction for a fantastic team here at Te Atatu. We are committed to providing an experience that exceeds the expectations of our vendors, purchasers, landlords and tenants. This is best achieved through a collaborative approach where we form a partnership with every client and customer.”

Team is everything at the Te Atatu Branch. Whilst recognising that everyone has their individual goals, there is an understanding and acceptance that everyone can achieve more, and in fact reach their full potential, when working together. Tony was a Professional Firefighter and Fire Officer for 24 years before joining Barfoot & Thompson. Again, in his own words - “I was first attracted to Barfoot & Thompson, a family-owned company, because of its reputation for ethical and professional service. Having come from a long career as an officer and manager within an organisation that regularly surveyed at No 1 for trust and confidence by Kiwis, this was hugely important to me. In all aspects of my business partnerships I stand by my core values of integrity, diligence and empathy. These values are my strongest drivers.”

On Saturday evening, the Viaduct Events Centre provided a stunning backdrop for the annual Barfoot & Thompson Awards Evening, bringing together the company’s top achievers. It is always a special night celebrating excellence across the network, and this year felt particularly meaningful.

Sitting among such outstanding performers, I felt an immense sense of pride. Leading Barfoot & Thompson Te Atatu is a privilege I never take for granted, and evenings like this are a powerful reminder of how fortunate I am to work alongside such a dedicated, resilient, and hardworking team.

There is an old expression in business - "When we are learning - we are earning". In the profession of real estate, never have truer words been spoken.

That is why the Barfoot & Thompson West Auckland Region Managers Group loves to put on special events for our teams, such as this one last week.

We gave this event the title "IGNITE - Fuel your mindset, Fuel your success!"

What a morning of inspiration it was & how fortunate we were to hear from two absolute legends in the field of how mindset & energy are the catalyst for all success. James Laughlan & Lisa O'Neil - if you have never heard them speak, look out for them in the future.

This is how we empower our people to reach their goals. This is how we open their minds to striving toward reaching their true potential. For anyone who has succeeded in life (not just in business), you will understand how the power of a strong mindset, and the energy we bring to every day, are the key ingredients to our results.

Thanks to every salesperson, property manager, admin support person, and support centre staff (all 200 of us) who attended the event. A special thanks also to OneRoof for your amazing support for the day via your event partnership - we couldn't have done it without you. And finally, thanks to my manager colleagues across the West Auckland Branch Network. I think we make a great leadership team, and every one of our branch staff benefits from our investment in events like this one.

A message of appreciation & pride...

What a night we just had at the 2026 RateMyAgent Annual Awards! It was a privilege to represent my team, Barfoot & Thompson Te Atatu, at this prestigious event, and I was honoured to accept some amazing recognitions on their behalf.

Congratulations to Qiao Liu for being awarded the Agent of the Year for Auckland and being rated in the top 4 agents in New Zealand. An incredible achievement from an incredible person.

Te Atatu Branch was also awarded Agency Of The Year for Te Atatu Peninsula (3rd year running), Te Atatu South & Kelston. We were also ranked at #39 in the National Winners Category. A stellar result for our team.

These results don't happen by accident.

I want to share a message of appreciation to my team for their continuous commitment to delivering exceptional customer service, and to our valued clients who took the time to post the reviews that are the driver behind these awards.
