If you experience an emergency that poses immediate danger during the holiday period, we urge you, in the first instance, to contact the following companies:

Fire:
Call 111 immediately

Power:
If you lose power, contact Vector to see if there is an issue at your address. If it’s an electrical emergency and there is immediate danger, contact an electrician, as we don’t want the situation to escalate to a fire.

Water:
If you lose water, contact Watercare to see if there is an issue at your address. If it’s a water emergency (like a burst pipe), turn off the water and contact a plumber, as we don’t want this causing additional damage to the property.

‼️ Beware of rental scams ‼️ With their escalating frequency, we want to protect you from falling victim.

The latest scams have been quite sophisticated, one such scam is they advertise our property on Facebook Marketplace at a slightly cheaper weekly rate, than what we have advertised it for.

When people chat with the scammer, who they believe is the property owner, the scammer explains that while Barfoot & Thompson are currently letting the property, they don’t intend to keep using us. This is cited as the reason why the ‘property owner’ is offering a cheaper price to people who sign up directly with them.

The scammer will then either book the person into our Barfoot & Thompson viewings, or simply give out the time and tell them to turn up.

After posting the viewing, the scammer will send a tenancy agreement, and once payment comes in, will block the person on Facebook.

Barfoot and Thompson NEVER ask for money upfront until you have seen the property inside and out with a staff member, who will have visible I.D. and travel in a clearly marked company vehicle.

The Barfoot & Thompson Property Manager will then provide a full tenancy agreement to be signed prior to any money collection. If you are unsure, please pop into our branch and see us in person.
