Meeting people straight off the plane to transport them into their new life in Aotearoa is one of the BEST parts of my job.

Huge congratulations to some of Auckland's newest arrivals - that 30 hour journey is a monster, but you guys made it!

We've just gone through back-to-school here in NZ, so I decided to add up exactly what the costs are when you enrol kids after relocating/at the start of a new year......and then write an article about it! Find it here

It is such an unbelievable privilege to be able to welcome people into their new home here in New Zealand. Driving to and from a house to prepare it for a family arriving always makes me super emotional because I know how much mental, emotional and financial energy they've poured into this dream of making the best country in the world HOME.

It's like seeing it through fresh eyes all over again 😍

I never take for granted the trust people have placed in me to find them their haven amidst the immigration madness. Best. Job. Ever.

And to our latest ATKF arriving in Auckland, a huge welcome 🇳🇿

I fully acknowledge this isn't a fair fight - and extremely British of me to hone in on the weather. But the contrast of leaving NZ summer for UK winter is STARK!!

The blue skies and sunshine account for a huge amount of the happiness we feel in NZ, and I can't lie and say it's easy returning to the grey and brown of the UK. But it is lovely to catch up with family and friends.

The weirdest thing when you emigrate is having 2 homes and no homes - you're always home, and never home. And you will never have everything important in your life in one place again.

I've always liked this neon light in ... It seems to describe the relocation process perfectly. The sea will be choppy, you'll be thrown around, green & seasick, and on the whim of forces, factors, people and decisions that are entirely out of your hands and your control. All you can do is accept what you're powerless over and hope for the best.

BUT, what you don't see when you're in the eye of the storm are the skills, the learning, the experiences that come with throwing your whole life in the air are EXACTLY what you need to build the life you want and yearn for in your new home.

Relocating changes you in ways you are totally unprepared for - it gives you a new sense of self that is anchored in your own ability to ride the waves, not through the identity of an accident of birth. It gives (and takes away) choices you've never been conscious of before - every single thing you do is intentional, and with purpose.

It is a bloody difficult journey, but it is also a hugely privileged one..... to arrive somewhere and create a life that aligns with what you truly want and need...... no amount of stormy seas could make that not worth it. I'll never take for granted the skilled sailor I am now, all because of moving to this beautiful place I now call home.

Thinking about moving to New Zealand? It is one of the biggest, bravest decisions you will ever make. I know because I have done it myself. We arrived in Auckland with children, no home sorted, and no idea how many tiny details we had yet to figure out.

This blog post guide to moving to New Zealand is designed to give you the honest version. It is the real story, with tips from my own journey and from the families we work with every day.
