hi all, back at work now for a couple of weeks after our break away, things have been very busy with no change to relax, just as well we had a break.

had a road trip on the long weekend to Picton and noticed the back of this building. looks like a very expensive weather-tightness repair bill coming up soon

had hard days work up in Mt Lyford the other week and then had to stay the night in the Lyford Lodge, great hosts, food and a very enjoyable evening sitting around the very large open fire. hosts are very friendly and have not been long in charge.
next morning it was off to Kaikoura for a Building Officials Branch meeting at the museum, very interesting place, well worth a look if you are in Kaikoura at any time. we al got on a bus for a trip up the coast to see the works on the road, they are certainly doing a fantastic job and when finished it will be one of the great road trips in the country to make. amazing how much the sea bed has risen, the pictures show the rocks are white, all the white sections were under sea before the earthquake and have lifted up.

in all the years i have been doing inspections i have never come a cross this before, when building this house a platform was made between the joists and then the gap filled with "Coke" then the floor laid, this was to form an insulation layer. it would probably work as insulation but i would not like to think what would happen if there was a fire. first picture is the platform as seen from under the floor and second is the gap filled with "Coke"
