When a street busker invited strangers to sing, he didn’t expect a frail woman in a wheelchair to roll up and ask for the mic. She was 93 years old, her speaking voice was very quiet, and she said she had not sung in public for decades. After sharing her tear-jerking life story, she took the microphone. The powerful, emotive voice that emerged stunned passers-by, stopping them dead in their tracks. Hundreds of students gathered to perform a traditional haka in the memory of their much loved high school teacher, Mr. Dawson. Unfortunately, he passed away in his sleep despite being just 55 years old. Outside of New Zealand, the Haka is mainly known as the challenge performed by the All Blacks before each of their rugby matches. It really is much more than that, though. It is also a mark of profound respect in Maori culture, a way of acknowledging those who have made a real contribution. A video taken of the emotional performance was uploaded to the school's page and quickly went viral. The video starts in silence, a mark of respect as the hearse pulls into the school grounds. Then, the sound of hundreds of students performing a haka with unbelievable passion fills the air. It's a spinetingling moment. See in comments 👇
