Do you know how often you the rent can be increased during a tenancy?

Different rules apply for rent increases depending on whether it is a fixed-term or periodic tenancy. For fixed-term tenancies, landlords can increase the rent only if the tenancy agreement allows this. They must give the correct notice and meet certain conditions.

I’m having trouble paying my rent. What should I do? 🙁

Tenants who can’t pay their rent should let their landlord know straight away. Be honest about the situation and come up with a plan for how and when you can pay what’s owing.

If you are likely to continue having trouble, think about other options. You can get in touch with budgeting services, Work and Income or other agencies to see what support is available.
