One of the biggest mindset shifts in property investing is this:
The home you'd love to live in is rarely the one that makes the best investment.
Why?
Because it's not your home. It's your tenant's home.
That simple shift changes the way you look at property.
When we're buying a home for ourselves, we naturally focus on what we love. The character, the backyard, the neighbourhood, or the little details that make it feel right.
But an investment property has a different job.
Instead of asking, "Would I live here?" start asking, "Would my ideal tenant choose this over the other options?"
The answer might surprise you.
For example, I know plenty of people who dream of a large backyard. But I also know many renters who would rather have a low-maintenance outdoor space so they can spend their weekends doing anything other than mowing lawns.
Different people value different things depending on their stage of life, lifestyle, and priorities.
The best investment decisions happen when you take your personal preferences out of the equation and focus on what the market actually wants.
Save this for when you're looking at your first investment property.
