In May, the median price in the Queenstown and Arrowtown Wards was 22% up on this time last year to $1,255,000. Notably, there were a number of Hanley’s sections that settled in May of last year, skewing the median price. Both median sale prices are skewed, for 2022 there was a large sale of Hanley’s farm sections, and in 2023 a large sale of high-density townhouses. Open homes were quiet over April, although this is expected due to public holidays like Easter and ANZAC day. Despite this, buyer interest in the region remains constant, especially from the North Island due to the desirability of Queenstown and Arrowtown Wards and its lifestyle offerings. Local salespeople say that tourism in the region is rebounding strongly, the building sector is busy, and this bodes well for good momentum going into the winter months.

March stats are out 📊📈

The median price in the Queenstown & Arrowtown wards saw a small increase of 3% year-on-year to $1,340,000.

Owner-occupiers remain the most active buyer pool whilst first-home buyers continue to struggle with securing finance due to the high median price. There continues to be a steady increase in buyers from outside the region looking to relocate to Queenstown.

Open-home attendance has been subdued compared to what it was a year ago, but there is still plenty of interest. Many buyers still have a fear of overpaying, adding to a lower sales count — down 24% annually. However, according to local salespeople supply is keeping up with demand and there are signs of market confidence making a comeback.
