QEII National Trust Covenant Survey

A misty morning as we headed out towards Ruakituri to undertake QEII National Trust Covenant survey to protect native bush.

Views of the Ngapakira Bluffs and Ruakituri River.
Stopped to check out the impressive new Ruakituri Bridge

Just loved our recent working holiday during April 2026 exploring different corners of Chatham Islands and Pitt Island. So many special moments snd experiences.

Looking forward to returning again soon.

Nice Autumn morning at Hangaroa to complete another Rural Subdivision.
Also checked out progress on the new Hangaroa Bluffs bypass nearby.

Were really getting into the swing of our early morning routines on the Chatham Islands.
Our forth covenant survey took us back out in Owenga.
We set up some survey control for some other adjoining blocks to be surveyed later in the week. However our plans for the rest of the day ended up changing as recent rain meant a stream crossing was not going to be safe.

A third covenant surveyed on Chatham Islands took us up to Wharekauri on the northern coast with views of Mount Chudleigh in the distance.
For this covenant the area adjoinef a beach which had been fenced along the top of sand dunes.
Tempted to have a swim as the ocean looked really inviting. But too cold and possibly not wise if White Pointer Sharks were about.

During April 2026 were back a second day to survey a covenant on this particular block in Owenga on Chatham Islands, New Zealand

We were mostly more sheltered from the prevailing wind as the land sloped away from the southern side of the coastline from where we had been working the day before.

Most the native vegetation seen here has been regenerating for 20 years and had been fenced off from the rest of the working farm.

The use of side by side had been helpful but not all areas are easily accessible so still plenty of walking.

Our second land surveying covenant project took us out to Owenga on Chatham Islands, New Zealand. These pics are from day one on this property.
We caught occasional glimpses of Pitt and Mangere Islands from the cliff tops where were surveying the fence line along the south coast.
Very exposed to wind gusts hense Kevin kneeling for shelter and holdingthe GPS rover 😳 on the fence post.
Otherwise plenty of established regenerating native planting especially in the fenced off areas of this farm.

We have not long returned back to Gisborne from a working holiday on Chatham Islands land surveying Nga Whenua Rahui Covenants during April 2026.
One of our first, and more easier, was out towards an area of the island known as Port Hutt. We enjoyed the spectacular views of lakes, sand dunes and the ocean. The native bush snd bent over trees were really cool too.
We also spooked a herd of wild horses (not shown) that bolted off into a gallop really quickly.

Getting to Pitt Island can be difficult at the best of times.
However when the owners of Flowerpot Lodge learnt there were surveyors visiting Chatham Islands on a working holiday it sealed the deal.
