💧 Hold the water: Avoid watering your plants for 2-3 days before moving day. Damp soil makes pots incredibly heavy, structurally weak, and prone to leaking mud everywhere.
📦 The open-box trick: Place smaller potted plants snugly inside open plastic crates or sturdy cardboard boxes. Fill the gaps with crushed newspaper so they don't tip over during the drive.
🌬️ Shield them from the wind: If plants are being moved in an open trailer, wrap the foliage loosely in fleece or old sheets. Highway-speed winds will shred delicate spring growth in seconds!
☀️ Last in, first out: Make sure your plants are loaded onto the truck last so they can be unloaded first, getting them straight back into the fresh Waikato air and sunlight.
