Older homes often have little insulation or insulation that no longer performs as intended.

This can leave ceilings and walls cooler, allowing condensation to form when warm indoor air meets those surfaces.

When damp surfaces become a regular occurrence, mould has the moisture it needs to thrive. 💧

Good insulation helps keep homes warmer, drier and more comfortable while reducing the conditions that allow moisture and mould to develop.

Cladding that sits too close to the ground can create the conditions mould thrives on.

When the base of the wall stays damp from soil, plants, or poor clearance, the exterior surface can struggle to dry properly. 💧

Cladding should generally sit 100mm above paved surfaces and 175mm above soil, grass, or bark. 🌱

Without that gap, moisture can build up around the base of the wall and mould can start to form on the outside of the home.

Mould doesn’t appear out of nowhere. Moisture always has a source.

Outside the home, mould often starts where water is getting in, getting trapped or surfaces are struggling to dry. 💧

Cracks in cladding, unsealed windows, blocked vents and poor ground clearance can all contribute.

Finding the source of the moisture is the first step to getting on top of it.
