Update from Kainga Ora received today on what has been a popular scheme (perhaps more so than anticipated) will be interesting to see what is next for first home buyer assistance

First Home Partner update

Kia ora,
Since launching in October 2021, the shared ownership scheme First Home Partner has helped nearly 700 households into home ownership.
We recently advised you that, due to unprecedented demand, this scheme is now fully subscribed and we are unable to accept any new applications.
Since our earlier communication we have continued to receive Sale and Purchase Agreements from applicants who already had confirmed eligibility. These agreements are being assessed on a case-by-case basis, subject to the standard First Home Partner due diligence process and sufficient funding being available for the required equity share.

This update is to inform you that we are now approaching our funding limit for this scheme. We expect our last day for receiving Sale and Purchase Agreements will be 5pm this coming Thursday, 9 November 2023.

We will unfortunately not be accepting any agreements submitted to Kāinga Ora after this time.

We are communicating directly with eligible applicants on what this might mean for them, while encouraging prospective first home buyers to consider the other home ownership products administered by Kāinga Ora.
A key part of the First Home Partner scheme is the support given to applicants once they have moved into their new home and start to gradually buy the share owned by Kāinga Ora. This is part of our Goals Management Programme, which will continue to operate. We look forward to supporting all successful applicants on their journey towards full ownership.
We are happy to help with any questions and your customers are able to contact us on 0508 935 266, or email us at [email protected]. Our team is available 9.00am – 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.

What is a letter of intent?

A letter of intent, also known as a heads of agreement, is often used by parties before entering into a formal contract. While such a letter can be a useful tool to maintain momentum during a commercial transaction, the document itself has been the centre of many disputes over the years.

We give an overview on why parties may wish to use a letter of intent, and the downsides that could lead to business losses and commercial disappointment.

When creating trust deeds, it is important that care is taken to clearly determine the beneficiaries.

Read our coverage of a recent case that went to the High Court in order to resolve the matter of the beneficiaries, due to the use of ambiguous language within the original deed.

If you have concerns about the wording of your trust deed, and how it could affect your beneficiaries, please get in touch for a review.
