Plan Change Update 📣
We wanted to share an update with the Parklands community on the next step in planning for Parklands.
As part of earlier engagement, we committed to keeping residents informed as the project progressed. We can now confirm that a private plan change application has been lodged with Napier City Council.
📍 The plan change relates to land around the large vacant area between Aspiring Drive and the Unison substation, to the west and south of the existing Parklands neighbourhood.
🏡 Most of this land is already zoned for residential development. The proposal also includes land that is currently zoned for reserve and sportsfields, and seeks to rezone parts of that land to residential use so the area can be developed in an integrated and coordinated way.
🛠️ At a high level, the proposal looks to enable further residential development within Parklands, along with an integrated approach to roading and stormwater management. It also provides for stormwater dry basins that hold water during significant rainfall events and are available for passive recreation when dry, while also improving connections between Parklands and Park Island.
ℹ️ Napier City Council will now review the plan change application. As part of the formal process, there will be an opportunity for the public to make submissions and share views with Council before any decisions are made in accordance with the Resource Management Act.
📃 At this stage, the timing for submissions is not yet known, as there are procedural steps Council must work through first. When submissions open, this will be publicly notified by Napier City Council, along with information on how to participate.
