There’s a story behind every great building.
The T&G Building, now home to The Dome, has been a cornerstone of Napier’s iconic skyline since 1936. Designed by Wellington architects Mitchell & Mitchell, its distinctive copper dome and clock lantern were unlike anything else rising from the city’s newly rebuilt streets.
Born from the rubble of the 1931 earthquake that levelled Napier’s commercial heart, this cream and pink beauty was part of a remarkable rebuilding story that turned tragedy into one of the world’s greatest collections of Art Deco architecture.
Once home to the Silver Slipper nightclub, and today, to some of Napier’s most luxurious suites and penthouses - the building has worn many lives beautifully. Nearly 90 years on, it’s still the most photographed building in the city.
Welcome to The Dome. Where history meets luxury, right in the heart of Napier. 🩵
