We hope this week has encouraged you to learn a little, use a little more reo and perhaps see the language around you in a different way.

But our language, our history and our connection to the whenua shouldn't only be celebrated for one week of the year.

Our roots are what connect us to where we've come from and help shape where we're going.

So let's not forget them.

Let's keep learning. Keep listening. Keep asking questions. Keep using te reo Māori. Keep teaching the next generation.

Because when we use and celebrate te reo Māori, we help ensure it continues to be heard, spoken and valued for generations to come.

Te reo Māori is a taonga. It belongs in our everyday lives, and it is something worth protecting and celebrating. 🌿

🌿 Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori

Te reo Māori is more than a language. It carries stories, history, knowledge, whakapapa and a connection to the whenua.

There are so many Māori words we already use in everyday life without even realising it. Words like kai, whānau, whenua, waka, aroha, mana and kia ora.

This week is a chance to learn a little more, but we hope it encourages people to keep using te reo long after Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori is over.

You don't have to know everything. Start with one word, one phrase or even learning how to correctly pronounce the Māori names of places around you.

Every little bit keeps our language heard, valued and alive. 🌿

One of the easiest ways to bring more te reo into our everyday lives is simply to start using the words we already know.

Try swapping:

Hello → Kia ora
Family → Whānau
Home → Kāinga
Food → Kai
Love → Aroha
Good → Ka pai

And if you don't know how to pronounce something, ask! Learning a language takes practice, and making an effort is something to be proud of.

Let's keep te reo Māori being heard in our homes, workplaces, schools and communities, not just this week, but every week. ❤️

📜 CONSTITUTION DAY 📜

Every country needs rules.

So does every workplace.

Therefore, we have decided to introduce the completely unofficial Taranaki Realty Constitution.

1: Coffee is not optional.

2: If someone brings baking, you are legally required to have some.

3: “I’ll just have one biscuit” is never legally binding.

4: Friday afternoon productivity is considered a grey area.

5: If you send a message saying “quick question”, it is never actually a quick question. 😂

We may need to add a few more.
