This is what community looks like. ❤️
Last weekend was one to remember. While some of the Deer to Care team were battling a blizzard out in the Southland high country harvesting deer and pigs, Stu was in Kurow coordinating the donation and processing of game from the Boar n Stag Muster Hunting Competition.
The result? An incredible 1,100kg of venison 🦌 and 875kg of pork 🐗 donated by generous hunters. Every kilogram will now be professionally processed before being distributed to families and individuals doing it tough throughout our communities.
Reading the Oamaru Mail article reminds us that Deer to Care is about so much more than meat. It’s about people coming together with a shared purpose. Hunters, volunteers, processors, community organisations, sponsors, and local businesses all playing their part to make a real difference.
A huge thank you to the organisers of the Boar n Stag Muster Hunting Competition for embracing Deer to Care and creating this opportunity, and to every hunter who chose to donate their hard-earned harvest. Your generosity will put thousands of nutritious meals on the tables of people who need them most.
To the amazing volunteers, the Oamaru Pacific Island Community Trust, Campbell’s Butchery, the Kurow Hunting Club, the Oamaru Licensing Trust, and everyone else who gave their time, skills, and support—thank you. Together, you’ve shown what a true community partnership can achieve.
