Nick grew up on Blackmount Station in Western Southland where his family farmed for 35 years. Nick then spent two years overseas playing rugby in Scotland and South Africa before returning to Blackmount. He then in 1997 enjoyed developing his own intensive sheep and cattle property in the Lilburn Valley (

near Tuatapere) for the next 5 years. Nick then took on the new challenge of rural real estate based in Te Anau, focusing on the Te Anau and Western Southland areas.
