If you are like The Happy Gardener and love Brussels sprouts, now is the time to start the growing process. Sow seeds into some wee pottles or trays. Seedlings will appear within a fortnight. Once they are finger-size, the seedling can be transplanted into punnets to grow-on or they can be planted out into the garden.

Brussels sprouts are a tall crop, reaching well over 1m in height. They are an ideal crop for the greenhouse, however they are not suited to covered growing pods as they get too tall.

Allow at least 50–70cm between plants and be patient as they take six to eight months to mature, but are well worth the wait.
Seedlings will be in the shops now. If room in the garden is limited, they look fabulous mixed into garden border with roses and shrubs. Because they get tall, they fill in space and the leaves look fabulous for months on end.
