The REINZ stats for January are out and although we have seen prices continue to ease, the pace of the decline is steadying and more activity is being reported. January is traditionally a slower month as sellers and buyers are on holiday so the data is not unexpected.

It’s no secret that the housing market in Aotearoa is experiencing low sales volumes but it’s important to remember that property transacts in cycles. What goes up must come down, and what goes down must come up; it’s hard to predict exactly when that trend will start to lift again.

The recent The Real Estate Institute of New Zealand stats show that homes are selling but being 'in' the market right now is key - as vendors meet the market, they will be buying just as competitively in the same environment.
