10 Paint Colours set to trend in 2025!

The buzz is real—Benjamin Moore has unveiled its Colour of the Year 2025 alongside a stunning Colour Trends Palette, and it’s a feast for the eyes. These 10 shades capture the pulse of today’s design trends while pointing toward the future of interiors.

This year, the focus shifts away from the bold and overly saturated hues of recent seasons. Instead, the palette leans into a “quietly colourful” vibe, creating spaces that feel cozy, inviting, and effortlessly stylish.

The star of the show? A warm, earthy shade called Cinnamon Slate, Benjamin Moore’s Colour of the Year. Let's take a closer look at this trending palette and how these hues can breathe new life into your home.
1. Rosepine 461
This deep, rich green is perfect for kitchen cabinets or millwork, adding a cheerful yet sophisticated touch. Pair it with textured finishes like exposed brick to create a playful contrast that’s full of character.

2. Paris Rain 1501
For those who love soft, understated hues, Paris Rain offers a chic alternative to classic grey. Its subtle green undertone pairs beautifully with blush tones for a cozy vibe or black and white accents for a clean, modern look.

3. Sea Salt CSP-95
If you enjoy a bit of mystery in your colours, Sea Salt delivers. This dynamic shade contains a blend of pigments that shift subtly with the light, offering endless versatility and intrigue for walls or accent pieces.

4. Glacier White OC-37
Not all whites are created equal, and Glacier White proves it. With a delicate cream undertone, this shade is warm and inviting, providing a soft backdrop that’s anything but sterile.

5. Stained Glass CSP-685
Like Sea Salt, Stained Glass is a complex and adaptable shade. It works harmoniously with a variety of colours and wood tones, making it an easy choice for any space.

6. Leather Saddle Brown 2100-20 & Chowning's Tan CW-195
Brown is officially back! These earthy tones bring warmth and depth to any room, whether you’re aiming for a sophisticated vibe or a cozy retreat. Want to go bold? Try “colour drenching” by using one of these shades on walls, ceilings, and trim for a dramatic yet welcoming effect.
I have just bought a brown double breasted suit. Loving it and I have had a lot of compliments!

7. Tissue Pink 1163
Soft and versatile, Tissue Pink can lean beige or blush depending on the lighting. This warmth-infused hue creates a welcoming atmosphere and pairs beautifully with complementary tones for added depth.

8. Ashwood Moss 1484
If black feels too harsh, Ashwood Moss is the perfect alternative. This deep green is elegant and grounding, ideal for creating a rich, enveloping feel when used on walls, cabinetry, or built-in features.

9. Cinnamon Slate 2113-40
Meet the hero of 2025! Cinnamon Slate is an enchanting blend of heather plum, soft brown, and grey. Its versatility allows it to adapt to any style, from modern minimalism to rustic charm.

Embrace the 2025 Palette
These trending colors are more than just paint—they’re tools to help you create spaces that feel like home. Whether you’re drawn to bold greens, earthy browns, or soft neutrals, there’s something in this palette for everyone.

Ready to refresh your space? Dive into these hues and let your home tell its own colorful story.

Five Tips for Buyers to Prepare for a Likely Market Rebound

With the recent 0.5% cut in interest rates, New Zealand buyers should start thinking strategically about the best time to enter the market.

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand has now lowered rates by a full 1% in recent months, creating a brief window for buyers to finalize their strategy before prices begin rising again. This impacts everyone—from upgraders and downsizers to first-time buyers and investors.

After two years of a slower market, we’re starting to see property values stabilize, with price growth expected in the coming months.

Lower interest rates are providing buyers with access to more affordable loans. For sellers, this added liquidity boosts their chances of achieving their desired price. A recent OneRoof survey shows Kiwis are getting ready for a rebound, with 41% of respondents expecting improved affordability over the next year and 21% saying lower rates could influence their decision to buy or sell.

Here are some tips for making the most of this moment as a buyer:

1. Consider Buying Now
The national average house price dropped by 1.1% in September, reaching $957,000 according to the OneRoof-Valocity House Value Index. This may seem challenging for sellers, but if you’re looking to upgrade, lower prices can mean a more affordable purchase, putting you ahead even if you sell your current home for less than anticipated.

2. Don’t Wait for the “Perfect” Timing
Rather than focusing on an ideal market moment, look at the favorable conditions available now. It’s often easier to buy and sell when the market favors buyers, even if timing isn’t perfectly aligned, than to wait until momentum shifts back to sellers.

3. Get Your Finances Ready
With reduced interest rates and easier access to funds, there’s likely to be more competition among buyers. Finalize your finances in advance so that you’re ready to move quickly if you find the right property.

4. Prepare Your Current Property
As you look for a new home, start getting your current property ready for sale. Traditionally, selling before buying is considered safest. But in a changing market, having your home prepared and on the market quickly could put you in the best position for a smooth transition.

5. Partner with a Great Agent
An experienced agent can provide valuable guidance on setting the right price and preparing your home for sale. I would like to help you navigate this process and identify the improvements that will attract the most value while advising against any changes that may not impact your sale price.

6. Be Flexible
Accommodate prospective buyers as much as possible, even if they request viewings at inconvenient times. Flexibility can go a long way in making your sale happen. Additionally, be open to negotiations—though it’s smart to have a minimum price in mind before entering discussions.

By keeping these strategies in mind, you can position yourself to make the most of the current market.

Ignore the negative noise if you're ready to sell today!

If you're contemplating whether now is the right time to upgrade or downsize in Wellington’s real estate market, there are several important factors you might want to consider. These factors reflect the local economic environment and your personal circumstances, which should ultimately guide your decision.

Interestingly, price trends are not necessarily the most critical factor when deciding whether to sell. While it’s tempting to watch the market closely, I believe that the most successful transactions occur when sellers focus on their own timing and readiness rather than external market signals.

Those who achieve the best outcomes aren’t constantly monitoring economic data or market forecasts. Instead, they sell when it suits their life circumstances—whether it's a lifestyle change, a growing family, or a shift in financial priorities—rather than trying to predict market movements over the next few months.

Why does this approach work? It’s simple. When the market is slower, your property might sell for a lower price, but you’ll also benefit from lower prices when you purchase your next home. On the flip side, in a hot market, your home may sell for more, but you’ll likely pay more for your new property as well. Timing your sale and purchase to match your own needs rather than chasing market highs can help you avoid unnecessary stress and make a more fulfilling move.

In a strong market, higher prices also come with added complexity. For instance, higher values mean increased transaction costs like taxes, and you may face more competition when looking to buy. Some sellers get caught in a bind, selling quickly but struggling to find a suitable home in time—leading them to rent or make hasty purchases that they later regret. Property decisions based on urgency can be costly, so careful planning is key.

Here are five factors that might be influencing your decision to sell, though none should deter you if you’re ready to make the move:

1. Economic Climate: Wellington’s property market, like any sector, is affected by broader economic conditions. While the economy may be slow, it’s crucial to keep an eye on property values and ensure you don’t overspend when buying your next home.

2. Negotiation Environment: Buyers in the current market know that conditions are slower, and they’re often prepared to bargain. Have a clear understanding of your price expectations and be ready to negotiate confidently.

3. Debt-to-Income (DTI) Rules: New DTI lending rules aim to prevent a future housing bubble but are adding caution to buyers’ mindsets. These rules may affect how much financing is available, which can influence both buyer behavior and your own planning.

4. Cost of Borrowing: The recent drop in the Official Cash Rate (OCR) from 5.5% to 5.25% is positive, but it’s not enough to significantly boost the property market. Economists suggest that a larger drop, closer to 1%, would be needed to create stronger momentum.

5.Brightline Test: Recent changes to the Brightline test have made it easier for investors to avoid capital gains tax, which is increasing the number of properties for sale. While this is adding activity to the market, the effects aren’t yet game-changing.

Ultimately, your personal circumstances and readiness should guide your decision, regardless of the broader market conditions.

5 ways to decorate with blue.

I have already done the on-trend greens and browns but blue is always a versatile colour reminiscent of the sea and sky, blue has a calming influence and will make a room feel more expansive.

Tip 1. Introduce blue gradually with decor.
Rather than overhauling your wall colour immediately, an easy way to try out a new colour palette is by bringing in decor that fits the scheme. This doesn't have to be furniture either – start small and increase as your taste evolves. Think artwork, ornaments and curtains.

Tip 2. Pair blue with texture in a neutral shade.
To prevent rooms from feeling flat (an important consideration if you're working with darker or richer shades of blue), neutral shades will balance out the light and dark. By opting for neutral shades with highly textured finishes, you also add visual depth and interest.

Tip 3. Don't be afraid to layer up different shades of blue
Focusing too much on an exact colour match is a common design mistake which should be avoided if you want a professional-looking result. Instead, opt for various shades within a colour family, and use them to create depth.

Tip 4. Dial up the opulence with bronze and brass touches
If you want a high-end and luxurious finish, paying attention to the smaller details is what matters most – and this is where metallics come in. Bronze and brass are guaranteed to amp up the sense of luxury in any room, but it's important to consider both undertones and finishes.

Tip 5. Balance cool tones with plenty of warmth
Blue sits on the cooler side of the colour spectrum, so adding warmth is important in ensuring your space still feels welcoming – not to mention, visually complex and interesting. Successful interior design hinges on creating a sense of balance within a space.
