New anchorage area in Panama Canal will increase sales

Approximately 12 million additional barrels could grow the bunker supply market in Panama, if a new anchorage area in the Atlantic sector is resolved, according to estimates presented at the forum organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands entitled “International Maritime Challenges-Panama ”.

Carls Von Lindeman, commercial manager of Royal Vopak VOPAK Panama, who presented the opportunities that exist in Panama for the growth of maritime activity, stressed that not only the business of supplying fuel to ships would grow but also other related activities.

However, the executive stressed that if the anchorage area is not developed or expanded to supply fuel in the Atlantic, it will not be possible to expand maritime business. He presented estimates taking into account statistics from IHS Mint 2020 of the ships that wait more than 10 hours on that coastline, being able to capture approximately 750 ships to supply them with fuel.

More than 80% of fuel sales are made on the Pacific coast, serving on average more than 5,700 ships, taking figures from 2019. While, in the Atlantic, 1898 ships were served in that same year for total sales of 1 , 106,603 barrels of fuel versus 4,744,996 million barrels of the Pacific in the same year.

The executive of the Dutch transnational underlined the urgency of finding new anchorage areas outside the breakwater for that coast, because business opportunities for the maritime sector are being lost.

Nueva área de fondeo incrementará ventas de petróleo

Aproximadamente 12 millones de barriles adicionales podría crecer el mercado de suministro de bunker en Panamá, si se resuelve una nueva área de fondeo en el sector Atlántico, según estimaciones presentada en el foro organizado por la Embajada del Reino de los Países Bajos titulada “International Maritime Challenges-Panamá”.

Carls Von Lindeman, gerente comercial de VOPAK Panamá, quien presentó las oportunidades que hay en Panamá para el crecimiento de la actividad marítima subrayó que no sólo crecería los negocios de suministros de combustible a buques sino otras actividades conexas.

Sin embargo, el ejecutivo subrayó que sino se desarrolla o expande el área de fondeo para suplir combustible en el Atlántico no se podrá ampliar los negocios marítimos. Presentó estimaciones tomando en consideración estadísticas de IHS Mint 2020 de los buques que esperan más 10 horas en ese litoral, pudiéndose capturar aproximadamente 750 buques para suplirles de combustible.

Más del 80 % de las ventas de combustible se realizan en el litoral Pacífico, atendiéndose en promedio más de 5,700 naves, tomando cifras de 2019. Mientras que, en el Atlántico, se atendieron en ese mismo año 1898 naves para unas ventas totales de 1, 106,603 barriles de combustible versus los 4,744,996 millones de barriles del Pacífico en el mismo año.

El ejecutivo de la trasnacional holandesa subrayó la urgencia de encontrar nuevas áreas de fondeos fuera del rompeola para ese litoral, porque se esta perdiendo oportunidades de negocios para el sector marítimo.
