¡Bendiciones siempre!
Yesterday was Daniel's birthday. I completely forgot he was turning 50, half a century old. If Ricky hadn't posted a picture of the two of them and the birthday song along with the big "50," I would have let it go unnoticed.
It's incredible how time flies, and how 50 years ago, when I finished the first cycle in Macaracas, in 1976, I had to move to the city to continue my studies.
The only option I could think of was to study at the Fermín Naudeau Institute. Since I had finished the first cycle with third place in my class, that made things much easier. However, what really made it happen was the fact that Elena was my guardian and was expecting Daniel.
We went to the Fermín Naudeau Institute. There, they immediately checked Elena's belly. Then the person who attended to us told us that since we were from the countryside, we had to go to the Ministry of Education. Elena and I went there, and they tried to convince me to enroll at Instituto América. Since I'm not easily impressed—I'm a Mina who doesn't take "no" for an excuse—we convinced her that I had worked very hard to get good grades so I could get into Naudeau.
That person, without a second thought, gave me the transfer. With that document, we went back to Naudeau, and again they gave us the front row so we could be first in line. From there, everything else is history. I was able to finish high school at Instituto Fermín Naudeau, but I must acknowledge that it was a team effort, first thanks to the work of my wonderful mother, Ana María, then thanks to Elena, who, for as long as I can remember, has been not only a sister but someone who has given us so much without expecting anything in return, and the fact that Daniel was on the way and from that moment on, he contributed his bit.
Today, the day after your birthday, my dear nephew, I want to send you my sincerest wishes for many more years of life filled with well-being, but above all, with good health.
Blessings always!
