A few months ago, our friend Anna G shared a quote that I’ve sat with a lot...

“When everybody is running, walking looks a lot like falling behind.”

To retreat, to us at least, means to slow down enough to see what’s behind all the speed and urgency that modern life can bring...to drop the heavy load that comparison and competition and “being enough” carries...and just give ourselves the space to feel what WE really need and want. We all know. It’s just a matter of finding the time and space to listen. And to trust.

As a retreat space, this poem feels especially meaningful to us. Because while retreats can be powerful, what we hope people leave with
is a renewed capacity to experience the ordinary as extraordinary.............

you can go to all the workshops and retreats
and read all of the books
and do all of the practices
and go to the holy places
and sing the songs of worship
and push your mind and body to the edge
and work with all the gurus and teachers
and do all the right things ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

and yet…

it’s the flutter of a butterfly
a soft kiss from a lover’s lips
the sweetness of fresh berries
the release of tears
a piece of art
the buzzing of a honeybee
a spontaneous dance
the scent of a rose
a breeze against your cheek
bare feet on the earth
the pluck of a guitar string
a burning sunset
a full-bellied laugh

that breaks your heart open
and brings you

down
to
your
knees

it is speaking, listening, seeing, feeling, moving, acting from the heart
that pulls the sweetest prayer
from your lips
that your tongue
has ever tasted

Feliz Inti Raymi!

Inti Raymi (Quechua for “Festival of the Sun”) is a celebration that honors Inti, the Inca Sun God. It takes place every year on June 24, coinciding with the Southern Hemisphere’s winter solstice and what was considered the Inca New Year.

Historically, it was the most important festival of the Inca Empire, held in the capital city of Cusco. The ceremony gave thanks for the previous year’s harvests and asked for the sun’s return and blessings for the agricultural cycle ahead.
