THE Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) in joint operations with and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested four suspected real estate scammers or “colorum agents” in Cavite on Friday.
Caught were Joana Marie Cruzada and Joana Marie Viray from Alfonso, Cavite; Felmarich Dagohoy of Taguig City; and Jovannie Cruz of Angat in Bulacan.
The four were arrested during an entrapment operation set up by DHSUD and NBI at around 3 p.m. in Barangay Sucat, Alfonso in Cavite.
The suspects were involved in selling properties at Alta Vista without any Certificate of Registration and License to Sell from DHSUD — a clear violation of existing laws.
They claimed to be part of 1Premier Land Marketing Co., an alleged marketing arm of developer of Alta Vista. 1Premier, however, is not registered with DHSUD.
Local real estate industry agents, who operate without proper legal documents are referred to as colorum agents.
“This is a reminder to everyone in the department and other agencies that we are serious in protecting home buyers. We will go after those who prey on unsuspecting home buyers,” DHSUD Secretary Eduardo del Rosario said in an issued statement.
The housing czar lauded DHSUD’s Regional Office 4A, headed by Attorney Jeck Otero, and the NBI for the successful operation.
At the same time, Del Rosario urged other DHSUD Regional Offices to intensify their respective drives against real estate scammers.
