RA 8485 NAGBABAWAL SA KALUPITAN AT MASAMANG PAGTRATO SA MGA HAYOP

Ang Republic Act No. 8485 o ang Animal Welfare Act of 1998 ay batas na naglalayong protektahan ang kapakanan ng mga hayop sa bansa. Saklaw nito ang wastong pangangalaga, maayos na tirahan, at tamang pagtrato sa lahat ng uri ng hayop.

Sa ilalim ng batas, ipinagbabawal ang anumang uri ng kalupitan at kapabayaan laban sa mga hayop upang matiyak ang kanilang kaligtasan at kapakanan.

PHILIPPINE AIRLINES ISSUES URGENT ADVISORY ON POWER BANK RULES

Philippine Airlines (PAL) has issued an urgent advisory reminding passengers that the carriage and use of power banks on board are subject to strict safety regulations, in line with the latest guidance from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Effective immediately, the following rules apply to all Philippine Airlines flights:
โ€ข Do not place power banks in checked baggage or overhead bins.
โ€ข Power banks must be carried with you at all times or placed in the seat pocket or under the seat in front of you.
โ€ข Only power banks up to 100Wh are allowed.
โ€ข Power banks must have a clearly indicated capacity label, preferably in watt-hours (Wh) or milliampere-hours (mAh).
โ€ข A maximum of two (2) power banks per passenger is permitted.
Note: Wh = (mAh ร— Voltage) รท 1000
โ€ข Each power bank must be packed individually to prevent short circuits (e.g., taped terminals, original packaging, plastic bags, or protective pouches).
โ€ข Charging of power banks is strictly prohibited throughout the flight.
โ€ข Power banks may be used to charge personal devices, except during taxi, takeoff, and landing.

ATTENTION, BEACHGOERS!

As the dry season begins, the National Museum of the Philippines urged the public on Tuesday to exercise caution when exploring beaches, as they may encounter dangerous marine species.

The museum specifically warned about the presence of the flower urchin (Toxopneustes pileolus), a highly venomous species capable of causing serious reactions such as paralysis, numbness, and breathing difficulties.

"This species of sea urchin is found in shallow waters, inhabiting coral reefs and rocks, scraping off algae, preventing it from overgrowing the coral community. They are abundant and widely distributed in Philippine waters, so next time you go to the beach, be vigilant," the museum wrote. (Facebook/National Museum of the Philippines)

Many donโ€™t know this information! Remember every second matters during a choking incident.
1. Place the dog on their back. Brace the back against the floor. Straddle the dog while adjusting yourself based on the size of the dog. Position the head in โ€œin-line positionโ€ with the airway parallel to the floor.
2. Make an open diamond shape with your hands. Place your thumbs on either side of the trachea below the ball or object. Grip the โ€œVโ€ of the jaw using lip/cheek to protect fingers.
3. Push with a J-stroke down and out against the ball until it ejects from the mouth.
Both this method and the Heimlich method has been proven to work in these scenarios so donโ€™t hesitate to save your dog.
