In a move aimed at advancing sustainable transport and modern waterfront development in Bataan, Bataan Baseco Joint Venture Inc. (BBJVI) recently held a meeting with representatives of Candela, one of the worldβs leading innovators in electric marine transportation technology.
The meeting was led by Mr. BjΓΆrn Antonsson, Regional CEO for Asia-Pacific (APAC) of Candela, together with Mr. Goody Ilagan Jr., President and CEO of Earth and Shore Leisure Communities Corp, BBJVI President Jopet Inton and Cong. Abet Garcia, where discussions centered on the potential integration of next-generation electric marine transport systems in the province.
Known globally for its cutting-edge hydrofoiling electric boats and ferries, Candela has gained international attention for developing zero-emission vessels that combine speed, efficiency, and environmental sustainability. Through its advanced hydrofoil technology, the companyβs vessels are designed to reduce energy consumption by as much as 80% while delivering quieter and significantly faster travel across waterways.
Among the technologies presented during the meeting was the Candela P-12 Shuttle, recognized as the worldβs first electric commuter vessel engineered for public transport operations. Also highlighted was the Candela C-8, considered among the fastest and longest-range electric boats currently in serial production.
The meeting underscores the growing interest of both local and international stakeholders in positioning Bataan as a potential hub for future-ready and environmentally sustainable development projects, particularly in coastal and marine transport sectors.
As governments and private sectors across the globe accelerate the shift toward clean energy and low-carbon mobility, BBJVI emphasized that partnerships and exploratory dialogues with global technology leaders such as Candela are crucial in preparing the province for emerging industries and sustainable economic growth. .
