Deut 6:10-15
Father, You warned the Israelites to watch themselves that they do not forget You once they enter the Promised Land and dwell in cities they did not build, live in houses full of good things they did not fill, drink from cisterns they did not dig, and eat from vineyards and olive trees they did not plant. They must not forget that it was You who brought them out of Egypt and provided all these things. They were to make You their only God, fully deserving of their devotion.
This warning is still relevant to us today given our penchant to forgetfulness and attributing our success to ourselves and things other than You. We are to keep reminding ourselves that everything we have is from You and every accomplishment is only by Your grace alone.
Lord, help me to guard my heart against idolatry, self-sufficiency and pride. May I always remember that it is only through Your favor and by Your grace that I am enjoying all the blessings I have right now. May I give to You the praise and thanksgiving due Your name as the only true, almighty, ever-living God.
