Government Reaches Out to OFWs Amid Protests
MalacaƱang has reassured overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) that the government is not their enemy, amid threats to withhold remittances in protest of former President Rodrigo Duterte's arrest. Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro emphasized the importance of unity among Filipinos, stating "It's better for all OFWs that we are not enemies. We are on the same side, we are all Filipinos."
The call for calm comes as OFWs consider withholding remittances, which are a crucial part of the Philippine economy. According to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, remittances have been steadily growing, indicating that OFWs have largely recovered from the pandemic
