PHILIPPINE GENERAL HOSPITAL - CAVITE

Currently, there is only one Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in the country, located on the University of the Philippines (UP) Manila campus. It also serves as the primary training center for medical students from UP campuses, with the majority coming from UP Manila.

However, exciting news was brought last year: the announcement of a new Philippine General Hospital (PGH) that would be established in the Province of Cavite. This will be the first PGH outside Metro Manila, aiming to ease the patient load at PGH Manila and enhance the region’s healthcare infrastructure.

The new PGH will be situated within the 200-hectare SM Carmona City (SMCC), a township development by SM Prime in partnership with the local government of Carmona. This upcoming medical facility will be highly beneficial to the growing population of Cavite and its neighboring areas.

PHILIPPINE GENERAL HOSPITAL - CAVITE

Currently, the only Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in the country is located on the University of the Philippines (UP) Manila campus, serving as the primary training center for medical students, primarily from UP Manila.

However, in a landmark development, a new PGH is set to rise in the Province of Cavite—marking the first PGH outside Metro Manila. This initiative aims to ease the patient load at PGH Manila while expanding access to high-quality healthcare in Southern Luzon.

The upcoming Philippine General Hospital - Cavite (PGH Cavite) will be a 600-bed tertiary facility located in the City of Carmona. It will be developed within the expansive 200-hectare SM Carmona City (SMCC)—a township project by SM Prime in partnership with the Local Government of Carmona. This modern mixed-use development will also include a new city hall, a transport terminal, a public market, the Cavite State University (CvSU) Carmona campus, an SM Mall, residential areas, business districts, and recreational spaces.

PGH Cavite is envisioned to play a pivotal role in strengthening the region’s healthcare infrastructure by providing accessible, advanced medical services to the growing population of Cavite and neighboring provinces. It stands to benefit not just the residents of Carmona, but the entire province—ushering in a new era of regional healthcare excellence.

NOVELETA FLOODWAY PROJECT

During typhoon season, the coastal areas of Cavite are highly susceptible to major flooding. As a natural catch basin during heavy rains, Noveleta and its surrounding communities are particularly vulnerable, often suffering severe devastation from strong typhoons.

To address this persistent issue, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to begin construction on the Noveleta Floodway Project, a key component of the larger Cavite Flood Control Project. This initiative includes both structural and non-structural flood mitigation measures, such as river improvements, flood forecasting systems, and the construction of retarding basins.

By implementing these measures, the project aims to significantly reduce overflow from multiple rivers, which is often the primary cause of widespread flooding. Once completed, it will help prevent severe inundation in the lower reaches of the San Juan River Basin and the adjacent Maalimango Creek Drainage Area.

Strategically located in a flood-prone yet economically significant region, this initiative will benefit not only Noveleta but also the cities of Imus and General Trias, as well as the municipalities of Kawit and Rosario. By strengthening flood management infrastructure, the project seeks to protect lives, properties, and the overall economic stability of the province.

CAVITE RAILWAYS
With the first five stations of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project now operational, commuters in the south are already experiencing significant improvements in travel convenience and efficiency. This milestone not only eases daily commutes but also contributes to the economic and social growth of Cavite by enhancing connectivity within the province and to Metro Manila.
Building on this progress, feasibility studies have been initiated to explore the development of additional railway systems in various parts of Cavite. These initiatives aim to address the province’s rapidly growing population, rising transportation demands, and worsening traffic congestion. The potential expansion of railway networks is expected to reduce travel times, improve access to employment opportunities, and stimulate business activities in both urban and rural areas.
By providing a modern and efficient alternative to road travel, these rail projects will significantly impact the lives of Caviteños, fostering a more sustainable and inclusive transportation system. Ultimately, these developments promise to transform the province into a well-connected hub, improving mobility for its people and supporting its continued growth and progress.

CAVITE BUS RAPID TRANSIT PROJECT

Megawide Construction Corporation and Maplecrest Group Inc. have secured a ₱1.87-billion joint venture contract to develop and operate the Cavite Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project. The notice of award, issued by the Office of the Provincial Governor of Cavite on December 26, 2024, marks a significant step toward modernizing the province’s transportation infrastructure.

The 42-kilometer BRT system will connect key areas in Cavite, including Kawit, Imus, General Trias, Tanza, and Trece Martires, to Metro Manila via the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), a transport hub also managed by Megawide.

The BRT project will be implemented in two phases:
• Phase 1 (Completion by 2026): This phase will feature a 15-kilometer BRT route with 27 stations connecting Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. It will also include a 26.5-kilometer point-to-point (P2P) route from PITX to Terminal 2.
• Phase 2 (Completion within 10 years): The second phase will extend the BRT system by 13.79 kilometers with 20 additional stations, reaching the new Government Center of Cavite. Meanwhile, the P2P route will expand by 34.11 kilometers to Terminal 3.

Once operational, the Cavite BRT is expected to alleviate traffic congestion, significantly reduce travel times, and improve connectivity between Cavite and Metro Manila, benefiting thousands of commuters daily.
