Naglabas na ng show cause order ang Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) laban sa operator ng modern jeep matapos na himatayin ang isang pasahero nito dahil sa umano'y siksikan.
Una nang naging viral sa social media ang video ng pasaherong hinimatay sa modern jeep na sinasabing punung-puno ng mga pasahero habang bumibiyahe sa Marcos Highway, Pasig City.
Ayon kay LTFRB Chairman Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III, kanilang ipinatatawag ang Easyway Transport Service and Multipurpose Cooperative, upang magpaliwanag kung bakit hindi ito dapat masuspindi o matanggalan ng Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) o prangkisa dahil sa paglabag sa โoverloading of passengers.โ
Ipinahaharap sa pagdinig ng LTFRB sa Pebrero 16, 2023 ang kinatawan ng naturang kooperatiba.
Maliban dito, pinasasagot din ang operator sa loob ng limang araw mula ng matanggap ang show cause order.
"Failure to provide an answer and non-appearance in the case hearing will be deemed a waiver on the part of the respondent to be heard, and the case will be decided based on the Boardโs records," ayon sa show cause order.
Batay sa alituntunin ng LTFRB, ang modern public utility vehicle ay dapat na may hanggang 28 pasahero lamang, 23 naka-upo at lima ang nakatayo.
Muling nagbigay babala si Chairman Guadiz sa lahat ng public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers at operators na iwasan nang magpuno ng mga pasahero at marapat na isaalang-alang ang kaligtasan ng lahat.
Giit ni Guadiz, ang โoverloadingโ sa pasahero ay labis na mapanganib hindi lamang sa posibleng pagmulan ng aksidente sa kalsada kundi maging sa banta ng Covid-19.
โThis means that PUVs should still observe proper distancing in terms of the number of passengers they can accommodate. Thus, overloading should not be allowed under any circumstance,โ pahayag ni Guadiz.
โPandemic or not, overloading is dangerous and should not be practiced by PUV drivers just for them to earn money and meet their boundary. No amount of money can equate to the safety of passengers, especially now that COVID-19 is still here,โ dagdag pa ng opisyal.
