On this , we celebrate the resilience, creativity, and tenacity of girls around the world. 🧡
Meet Shuhaira, an eighth-grade student in Cobato City, Philippines, who has faced challenges that would discourage most. She lost her father in a conflict-related ambush and now lives with her grandmother and younger sibling.
On the weekends, Shuhaira helps her grandmother sell dried banana leaves to provide income and food for the family. Her resilience shines through as she continues her education and dreams of becoming a teacher. She's determined to make a difference in the lives of children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
For girls like Shuhaira, the struggle to help their families often overshadows the opportunity for education. Many are forced to drop out or face early marriage. She says, “Sometimes we can barely have enough to eat in a day. That's why sometimes my sibling and I sell bananas. We earn around 300 pesos, and we use it for our daily school expenses.”
Through initiatives like Raw Hope, we strive to empower girls like Shuhaira in conflict-affected areas, helping them recover and rebuild their lives.
