“We are making it easier for our people to own homes. In this regard, we have developed affordable home financing schemes,” he said.

In the Pag-IBIG housing program, Duterte said the interest rate for socialized housing has been reduced to 3 percent from 4.5 percent; low cost housing to 5.375 percent from 5.5 recent; and housing units under the National Housing Authority to 3 percent from 6 percent.

He said the government has also removed the additional membership contribution requirement for housing loans, thereby lowering monthly amortizations. “Prior to this, housing loan borrowers with loans exceeding P500,000 were required to pay an additional P50 membership contribution for every P100,000 increase in loan or a fraction of it,” he said.

To ensure that beneficiaries have decent and comfortable living spaces, Duterte said they have also increased the minimum floor area of socialized housing.

The government will continue to provide decent and affordable housing to the Filipino people, President Duterte said in his midterm report to the nation.
