When SM Seaside City Cebu opened in 2015, it immediately stood out as one of the most unique shopping malls in the Philippines. Unlike the traditional rectangular layout of most malls, SM Seaside features a massive circular design that was inspired by the Nautilus Shell, a marine creature known for its beautiful spiral structure and remarkable natural geometry.

Designed by the internationally renowned architecture firm Arquitectonica, the mall draws inspiration from the nautilus shell's balanced proportions, concentric chambers, and continuous growth pattern. In nature, the shell expands outward in a smooth spiral while maintaining harmony and efficiency. These same principles were incorporated into the mall's design.

From above, the similarities become even more apparent. The mall's circular rings resemble the shell's chambers, while the central Seaside Tower serves as the visual focal point, much like the core of the nautilus spiral. The radial corridors extending from the center echo the natural divisions found within the shell's structure.

The Nautilus Shell has long fascinated architects, engineers, and mathematicians because of its association with symmetry, balance, and organic growth. By adopting these concepts, SM Seaside was designed not only to be visually striking but also to create a seamless flow of movement throughout the complex.

Situated along Cebu's South Road Properties (SRP), the mall's oceanfront location makes the inspiration even more fitting. The design reflects Cebu's deep connection to the sea while blending modern architecture with one of nature's most recognizable forms.

Today, SM Seaside remains one of Cebu's most recognizable landmarks—a place where architecture, nature, and innovation come together in a design inspired by the timeless beauty of the Nautilus Shell.

Cebu’s Biggest Pickleball Arena with 15 Courts, Football Field Nears Opening

A new sports destination is set to rise in Cebu as a facility featuring 15 pickleball courts and a football field prepares to open beside SM Seaside City Mall

The upcoming development is expected to be the largest pickleball hub in the city, addressing the growing demand for courts as the sport continues to gain popularity among Cebuanos.

Aside from pickleball, the inclusion of a football field aims to provide more space for athletes, teams, and recreational players, making the complex a multi-sport venue for the community.

An official opening date has yet to be announced, but excitement is already building as Cebu continues to expand its sports and lifestyle offerings.

Most people in Cebu don’t realize it but there’s a single continuous road that connects the entire metro Cebu together. From the southern edge of Carcar City, all the way up to Danao City, there is one long national highway spine cutting through cities, towns, traffic, commerce, and daily life.
No flights. No rail. No breaks.

Just one connected stretch of asphalt.
It starts where the South feels slow and provincial Carcar’s heritage streets, lechon stalls, and open horizons. Then it tightens as it enters Cebu City, where everything changes: traffic thickens, buildings rise, and the road transforms into the busiest urban artery in the Visayas.

Here, the highway doesn’t pause, it adapts. It bends through urban chaos, passes business districts, crosses into Mandaue City, and continues north like nothing stopped it. Then it stretches outward again. Through Consolacion, into Liloan, and finally reaching Danao City where the city breathes a little slower again, but the road still keeps going. End to end, it’s roughly 120 kilometers of continuous movement. But the real story isn’t the distance.

It’s what it carries. Every jeepney packed at rush hour. Every delivery truck crossing cities. Every student, worker, traveler, and dreamer moving along the same spine every single day. It’s not just a highway. It’s Cebu’s lifeline. And most people drive it without ever realizing they’re crossing an entire region on a single road.
