Eduard Lee Thorndike, a famous American psychologist, popularized the following laws of learning (law of readiness, law of exercise, and law of effect). ------ Revised: -- ABOUT THE NO HOMEWORK POLICY: (1) LAW OF EXERCISE AND LAW OF EFFECT : (a) This is very effective if we let pupils/students practice what was taught to them. One or two numbers homework is enough so that they will not forget easily. Then the teacher will review the past lesson. I used to give a check up test based on the homework using different numbers. And the result was very effective. The students performed their homework religiously because I gave them a check up test based on the homework after the review of the past lesson. In fact one if my students got a perfect score in the NAT ---- National Achievement Test throughout the Philippines. (b) Constant practice is very important. When I studied driving, my children laughed at me because I could not control the accelerator. It was quite difficult because my driving lesson was only every Sunday. So, I practiced 20 minutes everyday starting, left turn, right turn, stopping, etc. at home. I learned how to drive in 2 weeks !! Had I not practiced everyday, maybe I would not have learned driving in one month. (2) Assignment or homework is necessary in memorizing multiplication and division tables, memorizing poems, songs, etc. (3) Children need to practice READING, WRITING, and Math everyday. (if possible 3 times daily). (4) Right now many teachers have difficulties in teaching because of the Online Learning. (5) My apprentice engineer was promoted to an oiler after 6 months because I let him repeat staring and stopping machineries many times with my presence. If he was able to make perfect 3 -- 5 times, that was the time that I relied on him already. I let him assist prepare the engines and machineries before DEPARTURE and ARRIVAL MANUEVERING.
