32 It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.’
Luke 15:32
Have you ever felt so far gone that you doubted you could ever come back?
In the parable of the Prodigal Son, Jesus provides a beautiful illustration of God’s unwavering love and forgiveness. The story begins with a younger son who demands his inheritance, leaves home, and squanders his wealth on reckless living. When a severe famine hits, he finds himself destitute and alone, longing for the food that even the pigs eat.
What does this teach us about the consequences of our choices?
The young man’s journey into the depths of despair is a powerful reminder of how our decisions can lead us away from God and into hardship. Have you ever experienced a moment when you felt the weight of your choices pulling you down?
In his desperation, the son decides to return to his father, not expecting to be welcomed back as a son, but hoping to be taken on as a servant. To his surprise, his father sees him from afar, runs to him, embraces him, and celebrates his return with a feast.
This act of grace and forgiveness reveals the heart of God towards us. How do you think you would react if you were in the father's place?
Jesus’ parable teaches us that no matter how far we’ve strayed, God’s love remains steadfast. He waits eagerly for our return, ready to forgive and restore us. Are there areas in your life where you need to experience this kind of forgiveness and restoration?
Today, let’s reflect on the depth of God’s love and consider how we can extend that same grace to others.
REFLECTION
Reflect on your life and identify areas where you might feel lost or far from God.
Understand that no matter how far you have strayed, God’s love is always reaching out to you, ready to forgive and welcome you back. Take a moment to confess and turn back to God, trusting in His boundless mercy.
