Construction of the 45.5-kilometer Davao City Bypass, a β±70.82-billion project, continues to advance steadilyβbringing one of Mindanao's most transformative infrastructure undertakings closer to reality.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), together with the Regional Project Monitoring Committee XI, reported an overall physical accomplishment of 38.33% as of April 2026. Leading the way is Contract Package I-1, a 10.7-kilometer, β±13.23-billion stretch that has already reached 69.19% completion, making it the most advanced section of the bypass to date.
A major highlight of the project is its 2.3-kilometer twin-tube road tunnel, which represents one of the most significant engineering features of the entire bypass. Following the completion of tunnel excavation, construction activities have progressed toward structural works, tunnel lining, and the installation of essential systems required for safe operations.
Once completed, the tunnel section will introduce Mindanaoβs first tolled road facility, with toll collection applied specifically to support the operation and maintenance of the tunnel. The project will also feature modern traffic and safety management systems designed to monitor conditions and enhance operational efficiency.
Stretching from Barangay Sirawan in Toril, Davao City, to Barangay J.P. Laurel in Panabo City, Davao del Norte, the bypass is expected to significantly reduce congestion along the Maharlika Highway. Upon completion, travel time across Davao City is projected to improve from approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to just 49 minutes, strengthening connectivity, logistics, and economic activity across the Davao Region.
