LOOK | OVER 100 FOREIGN DELEGATES JOIN INVEST DAVAO: KADAYAWAN GLOBAL CONNECT 2025

As part of the Kadayawan Festival, Davao City strengthened its international linkages and positioned itself as a premier investment hub in Mindanao. On August 15, Acting Mayor Baste welcomed leaders and representatives from Palau, Japan, the United States, China, South Korea, Singapore, and Russia at Dusit Thani Hotel in Lanang, Davao City. The courtesy meetings were held under Invest Davao: Kadayawan Global Connect 2025, a three-day event organized by the Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC).

A total of 113 foreign delegates attended, including 32 foreign companies who joined the business forum alongside 90 local companies. Delegates expressed admiration for Davao’s peace and order, cleanliness, and leadership—factors that continue to strengthen investor confidence. The event showcased Davao not only as a cultural and tourism destination but also as a strategic location for trade, education, and investment opportunities.

DCIPC Head April Dayap emphasized that the goal of the event is to create meaningful connections with foreign investors so they can identify opportunities to bring their capital to Davao. Distinguished guests included Eyos Rudimch of the Koror State Government in Palau, Yamamoto Yuma of Sennan City in Japan, Zheng Feng of the Dalian Municipal Government in China, and Ria J. Jumawan Johnson from Tacoma City, USA. Also present were representatives from South Korea, Russia, Singapore, Fuzhou, and Nanning.

In his remarks, Mayor Baste described the event as a bridge of collaboration and goodwill, noting that just as the Kadayawan unites Davao’s eleven tribes, so too does it unite different nations and cultures in the spirit of mutual growth. He reaffirmed the city’s commitment to build more sister-city accords and expand partnerships that will generate long-term benefits for both Davao and its international partners. With strong foreign participation and increasing interest from global investors, Davao City continues to establish itself as an investment gateway of Southern Philippines.

LOOK | CHANGI AIRPORT GROUP JOINS PPP BIDDING FOR DAVAO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (DIA)

World-class operator Changi Airport Group of Singapore, consistently ranked among the best airports in the world, has officially joined the race to manage and operate the Davao International Airport under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) scheme.

According to Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, three conglomerates have now submitted their proposals for DIA:
• Filinvest Group
• Gokongwei Group
• Changi Airport Group (Singapore)

Dizon emphasized that unlike NAIA, Clark, and Mactan airports—already run by private operators—Davao remains the only major international gateway still under government management. He expressed confidence that the proposals could be approved this year, marking a major step toward elevating DIA’s facilities and services to global standards.

The entry of Changi Airport Group signals a strong vote of confidence in Davao’s growth as a premier international hub, boosting investor sentiment and positioning the city as a true gateway to Mindanao.

𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐨 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐁𝐈𝐌𝐏 𝐄𝐀𝐆𝐀 + 𝐍𝐓 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬

Athletes and coaches from Davao City were overall winners during the Brunei Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines-East Asia Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) and Northern Territory (NT) Friendship Games.

The Davao City contingents won 82 medals out of 102 medals bagged by the winning Philippine A representation at the 2024 BIMP EAGA +NT Territory Games, which took place from November 29, 2024 to December 6, 2024 in Puerto Princessa City, Palawan.

Davao City Sports Division Head Michael Denton Aportadera said that this is the first time that the Philippine A, Davao City, and the Davao Region bagged the title of overall champion since the BIMP-EAGA games started in 1996.

The 110 athletes and coaches from Davao brought home over-all 28 gold medals, 34 silver medals, and 20 bronze medals during the prestigious international games.

Based on the official medal tally, for athletics, Davao City bagged 21 medals; for archery, five medals; badminton, two medals; sepak takraw, three medals; E-sports, one medal; Karatedo, three medals; swimming, 42 medals; and Pencak Silat, five medals.

The BIMP EAGA +NT is a premier international sports event aimed at fostering greater cultural exchange among Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and the Northern Territory of Australia.

The 20th Davao City Council on Tuesday also feted 110 athletes and coaches who participated in the games for their outstanding achievement and contributions that significantly impacted and brought honor to the city of Davao.
