In compliance with the order of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Acting Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez to be responsive to the concerns raised by all stakeholders in the transport sector, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will conduct a nationwide public consultation in relation to the petition for fare increase of various transport groups.
LTFRB Chairperson Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said all the public consultation must be held in the soonest possible time, and his instruction to all Regional Directors is to make sure that all stakeholders are invited for the discussion in line with the instruction of President Ferdinand โBongbongโ Marcos, Jr.
In the case of the LTFRB Central Office in Quezon City, the public consultation will be held on November 10 and is expected to be attended by as many concerned sectors to ensure a wide exchange of ideas in relation to the petition.
โWe already issued a Board Resolution for the conduct of the public consultation on November 10 here at the Central Office. We will make sure that all concerned sectors will be present,โ said Chairperson Mendoza.
โWhile we understand the concerns raised by those in the PUV sector dahil talaga namang sunod-sunod ang pagtaas ng presyo ng petrolyo at mga spare parts ng sasakyan, kailangan din nating marinig ang panig ng lahat ng maapektuhan ng anumang taas-pasahe,โ he added.
The issuance of the LTFRB Board Resolution for the conduct of Public Consultation stemmed from the accounting of all pending motions and petitions based on the order of Chairperson Mendoza.
Based on the result, the LTFRB has already received several petitions from various public utility vehicle (PUV) operators particularly from public utility buses (PUBs), public utility jeepneys (PUJs), taxis and other denominations for the increase in fares.
On the part of the LTFRB, Chairperson Mendoza instructed all Regional Directors that the result of the public consultation in every region, including the recommendation, must be in his desk by Nov. 14.
By November 17, Chairperson Mendoza said they are targeting to submit the LTFRB position and recommendation to the office of the DOTr Secretary. #
