Summer in the Philippines is kicking off and a lot of us are surely planning for beach getaways. If one of your summer destinations is the south, you shouldn’t miss the beauti-cious city of Mati in Davao Oriental.
If there is one thing that Mati city prides itself of, it’s the pristine white sand beaches and natural sights that captivates in their own uniqueness. Mati is home to Dahican Beach, the known surfing and skim-boarding capital of the south. It is also one of the most-visited beaches in the Philippines during summer especially around the time of SummerFrolic festival.
While walking, we saw nursery pens where pawikan turtles lay eggs. I wish, I could witness a pawikan turtle laying her eggs here, but it usually happens at night and maybe it's not yet time for me see it. Nonetheless, I'm quite happy to see the conservation and protection efforts of the locals here to preserve the pawikan.
Dahican's open beach is ideal for a one-of-a-kind, laid-back and inexpensive escapade with family and friends. There are no modern facilities or high-end resorts unlike other developed beaches in the country, but the superb view of the clear turquoise water with huge and raging waves and the friendliness of the people will definitely make your vacation in Mati City truly memorable.

Developing Davao City is getting a lot of praise for ranking the 9th safest city in the world, but adventure awaits just a couple of hours outside the city for tourists who want to get lost. If you think you’ve seen the best beaches in country in Coron or Boracay, you should go to Dahican Beach in Mati City, Davao Oriental.
