SPOTTED: PROPERTY FRONTING GMALL TORIL NOW FENCED
A property fronting Gaisano Mall of Toril has recently been fenced, sparking speculation that it could be the future site of SM City Toril.
Yes, there are rumors about SM's plans to put up a mall in Toril, but until an official statement or press release is made, these remain - well - rumors.
When asked, several vendors near the site gave me mixed responses:
- "Ambot, gikural lang nilaโฆ"
- "Sa SM na"
-"Sa SM na (di ko sure ha?)"
- "Ambot, ana sila SM man daw na"
In short, pati mga tao sa site dili pud maka-confirm. ๐
It can be recalled that SM Prime published an article in 2017 entitled "SM plans 5 new malls in Mindanao until 2020". Part of that content reads:
"The two others being planned are in Zamboanga City and Toril in the southwestern part of Davao City."
"The proposed mall in Toril would be SMโs third in Davao City, where SM Prime built its first Mindanao branch โ the SM City Ecoland โ in 2001."
"Mr. Tiu said the planned Toril mall is positioned to also serve the consumer markets in southern and central parts of Mindanao, particularly the provinces of Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental and North Cotabato."
But then again, since the article stated "until 2020," the plan to build an SM mall in Toril may have been shelved.
Going back to the fenced property, while many associate a blue fence with SM developments, this one bears no SM logo. So, again, until SM issues an official statement or press release, this remains a rumor.
But if proven true, it would mark the 3rd SM Mall in Davao City.
