Good morning! This is our hometown Dumaguete!
Last week I shared a raw video of Dumaguete and called it a laidback city. That moment? I was sipping my afternoon coffee at Starbucks Dakong Balay, just watching people and cars pass by the boulevard. It was one of those chill late afternoons that reminded me why I love it here.
Some of you mentioned the growing number of cars and how traffic’s been heavier lately—and yep, valid point! It’s true that Dumaguete is evolving. But despite the changes, I still think it’s got that laidback soul. Here’s why:
1. The vibe is unhurried.
People here don’t rush. There’s no big city rush energy—just people doing their thing, steady and calm. Pa chill ra jud ang mga tao diri.
2. Traffic isn’t that bad.
I’ve been to Manila, Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo, and honestly? Dumaguete still feels way more relaxed. Traffic builds up during rush hours, sure—but outside that, it’s manageable.
3. Nature is never far.
In 15 to 30 minutes, you can be at a beach, a river, a waterfall, or hiking up a mountain. It’s easy to unplug here.
4. It feels like a small town in a city.
You’ll see familiar faces all the time. People say hi, and there’s this warm, “I know you” kind of feel.
5. Work-life balance is real.
Whether it’s a quiet moment by the boulevard, a coffee break, or just doing nothing—people here know how to slow down and enjoy.
6. It’s easy to get around.
Walking or biking is a thing here. You don’t always need a car, which makes life feel less… hectic.
7. The simple joys hit different.
Street food. Sunrise at the boulevard. Fresh market finds. A lazy café afternoon. People actually make time to enjoy these.
8. It feels safe.
Even late at night, you can walk around without worrying too much. There’s comfort in that.
9. And the people? Chill.
Less about the grind, more about living. That mindset keeps the city’s energy light.
So yeah, traffic might be creeping in—but Dumaguete’s still got that calm, cozy charm that’s hard to beat.
